Driver injured after being trapped under dump truck near Riverhead - NZ Herald

A young man has suffered critical injuries after being trapped inside the roll cage of his small dump truck at work near Riverhead, northwest of Auckland, this morning.

A St John spokeswoman said two ambulances, a rescue helicopter and Fire and Emergency Service crews attended.

"A male in his late 20s has been transported to Auckland Hospital in a critical condition," she said.

Waitemata Senior Sergeant Ian Byrne said emergency services were called to the area, near Helensville, about 9.30am.

The accident happened on Zander Rd. A resident told the Herald he heard a helicopter fly over his house around 9.45am.

An Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust spokesman said the man was trapped when the small dump truck rolled and he had to be dug out of the vehicle's roll cage.

Police said no further information was available but the accident would be referred to Worksafe New Zealand.

The Auckland District Health Board said on Wednesday that the man had ben transferred out of the care of Auckland hospital.
