Woman winched to safety after falling down a south Auckland waterfall - Stuff

A woman has been winched out of a pool after falling down a south Auckland waterfall on Sunday afternoon.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the Maketu Falls, near Ramarama, between 1.30pm and 2pm to extract the woman.

A spokesman for the helicopter service said the patient was in her 20s and sustained "multiple injuries" during the fall.

She was "extracted by winch" then flown to Middlemore Hospital in a moderate condition, he said.

The waterfall was eight metres high, flowing rapidly in stages down steep channel in a rock face.

Maketu waterfall is a popular swimming spot, accessed via a short bush walk in a rural area.
